The first year of the Money Guidance Pilots in the North of the UK signals a level of cooperation between public and private sector to support the increasing need for advice in the recession.

Chris Peel, Emerging Markets Director for social improvement and regeneration charity A4e explains "With the current economic climate, the need for an independent money guidance service has increased significantly. In launching this service, it has been incredibly valuable to tap into Legal & General's expertise. The proactive support we receive from them has provided our A4e Money Guiders with background, knowledge and language that directly complements our delivery to consumers".

Key members of Legal & General's Employed Sales Force (ESF), presented to A4e's face-to-face advisers in Manchester. Having been through an intensive 5-week induction programme to prepare them for delivering the North West Money Guidance programme, Legal & General's expertise was provided on a pro bono arrangement to support this important initiative which included

  • Tuition to their advisers on how to ensure they are clear on the barriers that exist between Guidance and Regulated advice.
  • Knowledge of the basic ranges of Products and Services open to clients in the market.
  • Understand the way that consumers can get referred to specialists in Mortgages, Protection, Wealth and Taxation, without compromising their advice position.
  • L&G's compliance function has been sharing its expertise in changes to the regulated financial advice under the proposed "Retail Distribution Review" or RDR and the ways that Networked Financial advice might benefit consumers in debt with A4e to better inform their decision-making.
